Digital literacy and e-learning methodology transfer project
Managers of the project at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University 27/10/2006 Technology transfer and use of new technology at universities are focal points of this project being carried out together with the Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, in Tangier and Tetouan.
Currently in its second year, the project contributes to the technological training of professors at Moroccan universities in order for them to acquire the resources, knowledge and skills that new information technologies offer in the field of education.
The digital literacy and e-learning methodology transfer project looks to act as the first step in a global digital literacy programme that can be introduced gradually and in such a way that it is integrated into different areas of Moroccan society, including the universities and civil society.
Structured in three phases
The digital literacy and e-learning methodology transfer project is divided into three phases. It is currently in the second phase. The first phase saw the “Training of Online Trainers” course held twice and a course in the use of Dreamweaver. All the courses were taught in French. In the second phase, the Moroccan tutors and professors took on a more central role. The most important new development in the second phase is the creation of two pilot courses in literacy in the Arabic and Tamazight languages using new technology. Reading and writing in Arabic and Tamazight is taught using an e-learning programme. These pilot courses are aimed at the Moroccan population, as well as Moroccan immigrants living in Spain. The third phase will see the activities started in the previous phases continue until the end of the project.
The project has been received with great interest by the university teachers in Morocco and some have even created their own virtual campuses, where they can give classes to PhD students. The kind of development promoted by the Campus for Peace and Solidarity consists in providing counterparts with the necessary tools to use the internet and new technology for education and progress.
