Programme to strengthen Dominican civil society

Doctor Iraima Capriles. Director of CEPREC January 2007The main aim of the project is to identify the training needs of the Dominican population in terms of literacy, economic resources, health and social cohesion. These needs are to be determined through a sociological study and the analysis of the reality in the Dominican Republic.

Subsequently, materials are to be developed for two kinds of online course: the first is to train monitors in the use of new technologies and e-learning, and the second is to answer the needs determined in the four areas defined for the population groups most affected by social marginalisation, poverty or other risk factors.

The viability of the project can be ensured thanks to the results of the needs analysis study carried out by the Dominican university and the experience of the UOC's Campus for Peace and Solidarity in developing e-learning courses in the field of cooperation for development. The local partner, the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, has ample experience in the area of social mediation through its centre for conflict resolution, CEPREC.

The project is financed in part by the Foreign Ministry's Programme for Inter-university Cooperation (PCI) and is currently in the phase of content development. Any logistical or financial collaboration would be warmly welcomed.
