Mediation and conflict resolution training for council staff and community leaders
Signing of the agreement This project is focused on the development of activities in the area of training in conflict resolution, social cohesion and the development of city life. It is aimed at council staff and those living in Cuautitlán Izcalli (Mexico).
The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, (Open University of Catalonia, UOC), through the Campus for Peace and Solidarity, will contribute the necessary tools and equipment in order to carry out this project. Likewise, the Campus for Peace and Solidarity will be responsible for the elaboration of the materials for the course; hiring trainers, authors and tutors, and setting up and maintaining the classrooms. The “Conflict resolution, social cohesion and development of city life” course will deal with subjects related to conflict resolution, digital literacy, education for peace, anti-corruption and corporate social responsibility, among others.
This agreement is part of a general framework agreement signed in 2007 by both participating institutions, which will run to 2009. The following representatives of Cuautitlán Izcalli City Council took part in the signing ceremony: David Ulises Guzmán Palma, the Mayor; Juan Carlos Córdova González, the Secretary; Alexander Estrado Rosales, the Councillor for social management and development; and Mercedes Carballoso Valdivieso, the Councillor for the city's public university. The Rector, Imma Tubella, signed the agreement on behalf of the UOC. Both parties agree to make efforts and mobilise resources in order to ensure the quantitative and qualitative expansion of their activities in teaching and research, through mutual cooperation and technical, scientific and cultural exchange, especially in terms of e-learning.
