The UOC's Barcelonès Centre to host the International 10 Years since Military Service Conference

The UOC is to host the International 10 Years since Military Service Conference on 15 May at its Barcelonès Centre (Rambla de Catalunya 6, 2nd floor). The Conference has been organised by Moviment per la Pau and the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection, with support from the Catdem Foundation and the UOC's Campus for Peace. The speakers include renowned public figures such as Xavier Badia, Director of the Catalan government's Office for Peace and Human Rights; Carles Campuzano, member of the Spanish congress for CiU; Jordi Pacheco, the Catalan government's Assistant General Director of Participation; Toni Comín, member of the Catalan parliament for PSC - Ciutadans pel Canvi; Raül Romeva, member of the European parliament for ICV; Tica Font, from the International Catalan Institute for Peace, and Imma Tubella, President of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC).

UOC students take part in an international simulation as United Nations diplomats

The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC) Campus for Peace is to take part in the 5th International Catalonia Model United Nations (C'MUN), organised by the United Nations Association of Spain, which starts on 21 April and ends on 24 April 2010. It is a meeting that brings together more than 400 students from around the world over 4 days to take part in a simulation of the United Nations system at Barcelona's CosmoCaixa.

The UOC presents its new project for peace:
A virtual African campus to improve access to education

The aim of the Campus for Peace-Africa, the new project from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC) Campus for Peace, presented today by Eduard Vinyamata (Director of the UOC Campus for Peace), is to create a virtual African campus and to disseminate programmes through collaborating institutions focusing on peaceful conflict resolution and the eradication of poverty.

The UOC's Campus for Peace presents the Campus for Peace-Africa project

Eduard Vinyamata, Director of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC) Campus for Peace, is to present the Campus for Peace-Africa project, a UOC initiative in collaboration with the African Virtual University (AVU) made up of a network of fifty universities. The project aims to improve access to education in Africa by offering African universities not just online courses on human development, but also offering them teaching materials on specific subjects focusing on overcoming poverty and conflict resolution. The presentation is to take place at 6 pm on 25 February at the UOC's headquarters at Avinguda del Tibidabo 39-43.

The UOC and Albea bcn sign a collaboration agreement to promote corporate social responsibility

Albea bcn and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC), through its Campus for Peace, have established a collaborative framework for the development of activities, actions and contents to raise awareness in society with regard to corporate social responsibility (CSR).

World experts debate conflict, conflict resolution and peace at the UOC

Two peace reporters in times of war, a member of Amnesty International's education group and an expert in gangs are some of those taking part in the 3rd International Conference on Conflict, Conflict Resolution and Peace organised by the UOC's Campus for Peace on 29 and 30 October. This conference, which is to take place at the UOC's Barcelonès Support Centre (Rambla de Catalunya 6), aims to act as a forum for debate and sharing of ideas on these subjects.

The UOC to host the 2nd EcoUniversity Conference

Nowadays, knowledge, reflection, debate and transformations are not generated exclusively in the classroom. In fact, there are those who feel that they are, on occasion, moving away from reality and the transcendental challenges that we are facing. Most universities focus solely on technology, science or economics because they believe that these are the truly practical and necessary things. But it should not be this way: they need to prepare students to find out about Nature, not as tourists but as pilgrims. As the great scientist Einstein said, "science without religion is lame and religion without science is blind", says Satish Kumar, editor of the renowned journal Resurgence and founder of the international Schumacher College.
