Imma Tubella signs a collaboration agreement with the UNAM
[30/11/2009]
The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC) and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Autonomous National University of Mexico, UNAM) are to sign a collaboration agreement next Thursday to strengthen relations between the two institutions in open and distance education. The signing of the agreement is to take place as part of UOC President Imma Tubella's visit to Mexico City, starting next Tuesday. The President is scheduled to meet university authorities, including the presidents of the UNAM, José Narro, and of the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional (National Pedagogical University), Silvia Ortega.

Following the signing of the agreement, Imma Tubella is to give a lecture in the Auditorium of the Union of Latin American and Caribbean Universities, on the UNAM Campus, which is to be broadcast via videoconferencing to the country's National University Network.

The UOC began 15 years ago thanks to the Catalan government's desire to offer top quality distance teaching. It is a pioneer in Europe for its distance teaching and learning model. Its success can be seen reflected in the 27% increase in the number of students over the last academic year, making it Catalonia's second largest university after the University of Barcelona.

The President's visit is also to include meetings with the local Catalan community, the delegate for "La Caixa" savings bank in Mexico, Joan Fabrega, and the Chairman and Managing Director of the Inbursa financial group, Marco Antonio Slim.
